very good tech list, for most part i agree, but some thoughts...

disagree on netflix, its not a technology. its the USPS and the DVD, netflix is an application of the technology

what about google? basic browser was the 1990s but algorithmic search engine as we know it is 2000s (google was not a commonly known site or verb until 2002-2003 time frame)

you left out elec entertainment - think about xbox360 and wii vs game consoles (or pc games) of 1999. night and day. and high enough penetration to include on your list

not sure what you would consider paypal, but could argue revolutionized ecommerce

satellite radio? not high enough penetration yet i guess, but i partially blame congress for that

also, your list ignores the "behind the scenes" infrastructure technologies that make much of this possible - evolutions in routing/switching, new stuff like blade servers, etc. Smart phones, DVR's, bband would not be possible without them, so while not "consumer" techs, they prob deserve some sort of honorable mention

finally, and in all seriousness, the wonder bra. u ever see one of those things in action? would trade in elec banking for the wonder bra in a heartbeat. guy who invented that is no dummy

Next decade - i expect most of the most impactful consumer techs will be extensions of what we already have, just better, faster, smaller, cheaper (you could argue this is what much of the above list really is, you could also argue that "extensions" of what we already have is incedibly naive and myopic too) and environment oriented / green technologies - electronic cars, new sources of power, etc.

I've been there my friend:
http://tinyurl.com/7kyu7f

I left it all to be close to family. Has it been easy? No. Would I do it again, knowing what I know now? Yes.

While this year has been tough from a financial perspective and I'm now traveling more than I was then, the boys have had the time of their life. Like right now, the house is full of lil children running around having fun: neighbors, cousins. Plus, there's aunts, uncles, grandparents as well.

I know you've made the right choice. Choosing family first is never wrong. Good on you, Mr. Wall. I knew I liked you for a reason. :)

P.S. Looking back though, I should've taken you up on that job offer you made once. I think great things would have come of it. Oh well. :)

Hey man - so sorry to see you go. But as I read your post, I realized how similar our experiences have been. I too headed out west to work at Adobe, and enjoyed every minute of it. But from a family perspective, we're east coasters, and 3 years to the day, we were moving back to NY.

I'm thrilled to hear of your new position at Bullhorn, and I wish you the best of luck moving forward.

Thanks Bernie. If I was on Windows at work and Mac at home, I'd definitely consider doing what you are doing. I'm not a full GTD person yet, but perhaps on my way. From what i find of evernote, i think managing tasks in it would be a bit more effort than it is with Things. I'm wondering if I was on Windows what other task/to do managers exist that are inexpensive and sync to the iphone too....I think outlook tasks are pretty good, but they don't sync to the iphone...

Thanks for sharing Jonathan. I was also struck by Kevin's post (and now yours) how similar my workflow is. (I'm chuckling at your mention of the Comcast app -- I love that thing! -- and yeah, also can't wait for DVR scheduling).

Probably the biggest difference is that I use Evernote for everything (including task management). I've found having one system helps keep me more focused (plus I'm Windows by day, Mac by night so Evernote won me over in that regard). The following is a very good series of articles explaining a great way to setup Evernote for GTD: http://examinehealth.com/personal-productivity/69-gtd-and-evernote.html
